Small town, BIG heart. Enjoy Brussels!

The Grand Place

Brussels is a beautiful city.

The Grand Place is a picture postcard of old Europe and the center of the bustling city.

The Amigo Hotel is only one block from the square and the ONLY place to stay in Brussels. Elegant, great food and great service. The bar is always busy and great for people watching. Across the street is the BEST and oldest waffle place is Brussels, Masion Dandoy since 1829. Usually you have to wait in line for your take out treat but they do have a restaurant on the second floor. Also taste their speculoos, THE cookie of Belgium.

One of the best moules and frites restaurants is Le Chou de Bruxelles, you MUST have reservations. They serve 30 different kinds depending on what is in season. A fun tapas bar is “Pepete & Ronron” in St Catherine area, casual, great tapas and good wines. Not expensive and the area is very hip. Lots of cafes in the area and the light show there that we attended was fun! A trendy new restaurant complex is a restored bank, it's called "Belga Queen" and it has a big bar, sushi bar and it's a big central elegant resturant.

Brussels has a daily flea market plus antique markets, they have wonderful book stores too. Brussels is the home of cartoons and the Museum of cartoons is great. There is also a lot of street art that changes all the time. The city awards spaces for painters to show their work so it changes often. There are also beautiful covered galleries with wonderful shops. Of course there are many chocolate shops. One of the best is MARY. Don’t get tempted by bargain prices. The best chocolates are expensive but they are worth it.

There are trains to Brussels from all over Europe. Fast efficient and not very expensive. I suggest a walking tour your first morning so you can figure out what you would like to see, Brussels is a walking city and the cobblestones hurt your feet so bring good walking shoes. Metro is very efficient well marked and not expensive, ask around and someone at the station will show you how to use it.

Enjoy Brussels!
